TRIP TO WINDSOR CASTLE POEM 13

Taking a trip down memory lane is something that is usually pleasant. We blur the sad moments into wistful memory and remember the big moments of success and joy. We choose what to remember and so focussing on the positive can be something that brings us greater happiness. As an artist, you also choose what to focus on - this creates your theme. This is not in contradiction to catharsis, but is the moment that you let that negative aspect go, if you so choose.

“I can only note that the past is beautiful because one never realises an emotion at the time. It expands later, and thus we don't have complete emotions about the present, only about the past.” Virginia Woolf

The Tower

So very high the tower stood,

Adjacent to the gate,

A view we could not see,

To know would be to know.

So we go on in our ways,

Choosing our blinkers,

Or living in a flare light,

Eyes in the night seeing.

A flicker of a torch,

Can be a signal, a message,

Or it can be a light,

So, which do we choose?

“But who can remember pain, once it’s over? All that remains of it is a shadow, not in the mind even, in the flesh. Pain marks you, but too deep to see. Out of sight, out of mind.” Margaret Atwood
