TRIP TO HISTORIC BATH POEM 29

Another year passes! We welcome in 2022. Best of wishes to you all, with many happy returns.

“For last year's words belong to last year's language, And next year's words await another voice.” T.S. Eliot

Projection

Tall before me you seem so proud,

With knowledge deep and profound,

Your voice accented and refined,

It seems you are all there is to find.

Berate me and I fall for that is so,

Confused and I stick to text and try,

An elegant line or criticism is beyond

My grasp but I keep to the task.

I can chart your lips movement,

And predict your turn and sway,

As mirrored to mine you stare,

And seem to consider my prospects.

Alas! They are no good for my line

Is straight and unoriginal,

For the only line I understand

Is unplanned and discouraging.

“Be at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let every new year find you a better man.” Benjamin Franklin
