TRIP TO HISTORIC BATH POEM 20
Visiting the Cathedral in Bath was an intense experience, as prayer was going on and it was possible to join in. Life is a deeply ritualistic event, with tea in the morning with toast and all the daily tasks falling into a schedule made by constraint and demand outside of your own. So to chance upon such a deep ritual was serendipitous and deeply special.
“I prefer painting people’s eyes to cathedrals, for there is something in the eyes that is not in the cathedral, however solemn and imposing the latter may be — a human soul, be it that of a poor beggar or of a street walker, is more interesting to me.” Vincent van Gogh
Upwards
I look and see a tomb,
My eyes raise upwards,
Towards the heavens,
Past the saints displayed.
I am bold to look,
But invited I stare,
Looking for meaning,
In statues of stone and glass.
I berate myself for
Longing, desiring something,
Greater than myself,
A hope fervent but futile.
You reach to me and touch me,
An I am restored by you,
For you do love me deeply,
And unconditionally as I need.
“Watch your thoughts, they become your words; watch your words, they become your actions; watch your actions, they become your habits; watch your habits, they become your character; watch your character, it becomes your destiny.” Lao Tzu
