TRIP TO HISTORIC BATH POEM 19

Conversation always has a point, but a poem has more than this. Poem has meaning, allusions and subtext, for example. So we look into a poem for a deeper meaning, as well as the potency of the words themselves.

"Poetry is nearer to vital truth than history." Plato

Derisive

Your derision fills me with displeasure,

Not the usual instinct to please,

I wish to ennumber your faults,

Each false digit exposed to all.

If you were to flatter me I would,

Feel the same as I would,

Do the same to you,

So you knew.

“There is not a particle of life which does not bear poetry within it”. Gustave Flaubert
