TRIP TO ELTHAM PALACE POEM 9
Surrounded by such elegance, it was difficult to imagine what it would be like to have lodged in Eltham Palace, while visiting the people that lived there. It was a place bustling with stars and actors, it said, and you could feel the atmosphere a little. When life is carefree you can make your own cares, so it seemed like Romance was in the air!
“My idea of good company, Mr. Eliot, is the company of clever, well-informed people who have a great deal of conversation; that is what I call good company.” Jane Austen
Betrayed
Before you looked I did not know,
How I betray myself,
In fantasy I cling to you,
As life can be as measured
As a portrait or painting.
The horses’ legs positioned elegantly,
Were so very poised,
As your standards are so very high,
That they trotted in time,
As in a show or race o’er box.
So marshalled life was simple,
And the standards flew outside,
And the soldiers marched in time,
And the Prince was mine.
“To get the full value of joy you must have someone to divide it with.” Mark Twain
