TRIP TO ELTHAM PALACE POEM 36
To be an artist, you must find your haven. Somewhere or someone or an organization that understands you and protects your inner child. You release yourself and your innocence to the World through your art and so, in a sense, you are more vulnerable than others. Criticism is a good thing, if it is honest and true, but it hurts as it is a criticism of your expression of yourself. To improve as an artist, one must criticize or critique one's own work - it is called self-reflection and is very deep.
“Modern paintings are like women, you'll never enjoy them if you try to understand them.” Freddie Mercury
Drunk
I drank from the waters,
And found myself dead,
I walked the path,
And you followed.
So used to your step,
I could barely hear it,
But for the beating of your heart,
Still passionate and regular.
When close to you,
I can hear the beat,
Like a drum for war,
Military and strong.
I can lie in your arms safe,
Therefore, as I know your pace,
And feel your constance,
For you guard me from ill.
Your patience is like a mother,
And I lie quiet,
In the radiance of your love.
“When art is made new, we are made new with it. We have a sense of solidarity with our own time, and of psychic energies shared and redoubled, which is just about the most satisfying thing that life has to offer." John Russell
