TRIP TO ELTHAM PALACE POEM 15

When someone is in tune with themselves, they shine like a beacon, and attract everyone to them. They are surrounded by other people looking for their own light. Beware of borrowing someone's light, because when they are gone, does the light go out too? I think every person you meet gives you a part of them and so it does not go. Living in reflected light, however, may mean you are not the main character in your own scene.

“We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light.” Plato

I connect with you and there is no despair

In the moment,

Transfixed and bold the rush of the tide

Carries me and cradles me,

Suffocates me and releases me,

Entwined in your intention

And purpose there is no room

Left for me and you,

There is only ‘I’.

There is no surprise or circumstance of consequence,

So there is no anxiety or cause or responsibility,

Only two bodies touching,

Feeling their way about the other.

This passion is misplaced,

As there is more to me than a trunk and limbs,

There is no deposit in these actions,

There is no trust or confidence,

For you are not a doorway,

Or corridor to me.

I do not expect to traverse you to others,

To a borrowed success, bought in similar

Fashion.

I cannot bathe in your light,

As I have a light of my own,

We cannot share,

As it would diffuse yours,

So bright and penetrating.

“No one saves us but ourselves. No one can and no one may. We ourselves must walk the path.” Gautama Buddha
