TRIP TO DEAL
Trip to Deal, Kent. Took some photos, ate fish and chips by the sea, and wrote some poems when I got home. 15.07.2021
Welcome to my blog site. This is my first blog of poems, that I've been writing since I moved back to the U.K.. I've always written poems for myself and sometimes I have shown them to my friends and sent them as keepsakes in return to theirs. Writing regularly for the first time, I thought I would use 'the blog' as my tool for organising my thoughts.
"Wherever I lay my hat, that's my home. Marvin Gaye"
A shingle beach. A clear view to the horizon and of the pier. A grey day with a brilliance on the water, a trick of the light. Inspiration!
Entrapped
Supine on the slat I lay reading,
As if a character from a book –
Full fresh as the day I was borne,
So airy I felt the freedom of the Greeks at war.
An Olympian of the mind,
I conversed with men of the past,
Creating the same lines I furrowed in the sheets,
An American of the same line.
Entrapped in my freedom I was caressed
By the air and as horizontal as the
Horizon I lapped as the sea touching
That line which is in fact a point.
At the point of climax I was undone,
There were no bonds of marriage or clime,
For a sweet moment there was no thought,
No chain, no ring, no responsibility,
Just our breath together and hands clasped
And lips bitten and promises given
We did not intend to keep.
Entrapped in my convention I hastily redressed,
Thinking nothing of our tryst but love,
Perhaps it is I who lie,
Perhaps sweet nothings have substance,
And I now lie entrapped.
