SALISBURY PERSPECTIVES POEM 9
The heat is stagnant and the leaves barely move, it is the time of quiet and we work on.
"The whole earth is the tomb of heroic men and their story is not given only on stone over their clay but abides everywhere without visible symbol woven into the stuff of other mens lives." Pericles
Abide With Me
Stay my love for the Winter and hold me tight,
For there is much to care for between us,
Beyond the hedgerow and endless field,
Past the horizon line when our time is spent.
The rough and tumble of life is strong,
In Summer’s heat it is not easy to discern,
But as the season changes so do we,
Responsibility grows and so does life.
Abide with me and stay the storm,
For Summer comes around again too soon,
The lazy sleepy haze surrounds us,
And we forget the things that were so bold.
The season’s change becomes a simple pattern,
Fate written in our habits and conventions,
A simple rhyme to guide us along,
So abide with me and we will sing our song.
"I want what I'm afraid of and I'm afraid of what I want so that I'm like a storm inside that can't break loose!" Tennessee Williams
