SALISBURY PERSPECTIVES POEM 29
As the night creeps back in we long for the cool of the middle of the night, to refresh our minds and senses.
"Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night." Edgar Allan Poe
The Stone
A cross is borne in stone,
To remember the time past,
The people brave and sincere,
In their persistent ways.
If I were as hard as stone,
I would stand there too,
Remembering the transient life,
Of those that once were here.
We look to history for the answer,
Ablaze in our memories are the tokens,
The sweet remembrance of another,
A delight before our eyes in kind.
I am soft like the grass,
Or the wind blowing gently,
So while I do not stand as stone,
I do remember you well.
"The air was full of all the night noises that, taken together, make one big silence..." Rudyard Kipling
