SALISBURY PERSPECTIVES POEM 26
As the sun starts to find his feet, we run for the shade.
"Every man carries with him through life a mirror, as unique and impossible to get rid of as his shadow." W.H. Auden
I Will Wait For You
As the sun casts the shadow,
The light reflected obscured,
By the object of shadow,
I shall wait for you.
No more the object,
Of your desire or sighs,
I shall find a better end,
But consider you my friend.
Deeply consumed an object,
You can no longer be,
Assuming identity for a shadow,
Unfixed and obscure.
So I will wait for you,
At the noon-tide rise,
Watching as if there,
Obscured by the light.
"All of this had always existed, and he had not seen it; he had not been with it. Now he was with it, he was part of it. Light and shadow ran through his eyes, stars and moon ran through his heart." Hermann Hesse
