SALISBURY PERSPECTIVES POEM 20
The heat pervades throughout, with no place to lurk in the cool. A cool drink clears the head to further endeavour.
"All happiness depends on courage and work." Honoré de Balzac
The Day’s Work
Our pleasant task is done,
The day’s triumph is won,
We can put away our books,
The days work accomplished.
Let me rest my head on your shoulder,
Your arm supporting my neck,
Cradled therein I can sleep,
Alert only to your beating heart.
I am aware of your travail,
Your map is not as mine,
I may rest at the end of the day,
There is no such relent.
The days work accomplished,
I rest my head on you,
For there is nothing left to do,
But lean on your beating heart.
"The artist is nothing without the gift, but the gift is nothing without work." Émile Zola
