SALISBURY PERSPECTIVES POEM 17
Brave and prepared we go! There is much to be done and we trudge on.
"At what point then is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us, it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide." Abraham Lincoln
Approaching You
So grand and tall an ancient ruin,
Weathered by the ages you stand,
Your chiselled rock majestic ripened,
The years having left no real mark.
You abide and see the ages pass,
Here we are another set of men,
Making our vigil by your right,
Times has not yet touched us.
The chastened grass and trees,
Are your only companions we see,
Surrounded by the ancient mystery,
We gloat our glut of fidelity.
Upon the hill you stand,
We only aware of this on our approach,
We meet you in our reverent way,
To learn from your ancient stones today.
“Let innocence, the god´s loveliest gift, chose me for her own; Never may the dread Cyprian craze my heart to leave old love for new, sending to assault me angry disputes and feuds unending;” Euripides
