SALISBURY PERSPECTIVES POEM 14
The hustle and the bustle of the day continues as it's slow hot pace.
"Heaven has appointed us dwellers on earth a time for all things." Homer
The First Stone
A stone stands marking the day,
The time passing nods in a round,
Its step the measure of the event,
A mysterious stranger in the past.
The breeze floats aloft the cloud,
Peering down on us today,
As he did in those ancient times,
When first the stones were laid.
What did they feel when the first stone,
Touched the earth on which it stands?
A puzzle to be unlocked but can,
We find the key?
Our hopes are high as we approach,
To see what no one else has seen before,
Our eyes fresh in the day will perceive,
The stones as we see the ancient lore.
"Heaven cannot brook two suns, nor earth two masters." Alexander the Great
