SALISBURY PERSPECTIVES POEM 10
The heat is dull and metallic and life is slowing down for the heat wave. Only the very brave pursues in the heat.
"It is respectable to have no illusions, and safe, and profitable and dull." Joseph Conrad
There Is Nothing
There is nothing that compares to you,
The blue sky is blanched and worn,
The grass is dirty and tufty,
All others bore me and make me moan.
The day is dull without you,
Even though the heat is enough to faint,
Conversation is a subtle moan,
To learn is to watch drying paint.
The subject is a laden one,
I must chase it away,
I hate to accuse you of this,
But it is you that went away.
There is nothing that compares to you,
It makes me want to cry,
Distraction does not coin the phrase,
I simply want to die.
"Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence." Helen Keller
