SALISBURY LANDSCAPES POEM 8
The wind relents somewhat as we suffer the storm. We must keep our cheer up and find constructive things to do while waiting for it to pass. Look after yourselves!
“When you come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what this storm’s all about.” Haruki Murakami
Bracing
The purplish hue spreads across the plane,
Perpendicular to fenced barb and stakes of wood,
Offensive to the sight as a caution to safety,
Hemming in the wayward step with no short cut.
The weather is bracing our approach strong,
For the wind does not batter our route from straight,
But pushes the walker to slower pace,
So we brace our bodies to find our way.
Each step is harder than the next as we walk
Against the wind his breath so intent that
We almost come to a stop so we bend further
Into his arms and find a pace to suit our path.
Sometimes we must walk against the wind,
And though our pace is slow we progress almost
Unknowing for the distant point is further,
For our weak attempts are plain and our path distinct.
“There is scarcely any passion without struggle.” Albert Camus
