PARTITIONS POEM 2
Do you keep secrets? There are some things you never tell and some things that you never forget. I believe you can have special relationships with people that are not cast asunder by distance - sometimes I send people poems to remind them of me, as well as messages. Love is like that, I think, something tangible you can grow but only in spirit.
Rough Seas
By the rock we stood,
Holding hands
And protesting our love,
Protecting our love,
We fell aside and parted ways,
Spacially asunder
And therefore no longer
At threat.
“There are rough seas ahead my love –
Let us hide our secret and save it from harm.”
So we went our way,
Solid in our single minded nature,
As sceptical as a wave,
We chid the rock
And smoothed the sand,
Bilaterally cut
We were hard
And succeeded
In cheating life itself.
What was left of our secret?
We did not know,
For how we felt of anything,
We did not care to show,
As life itself is precious,
Without intimacy
And fear of betrayal.
Beyond time and space,
A trail of thought,
Intensions
And rough hewn purposes
We became what we became,
Standing before each other in years to come,
Will we recognise
The other’s face?
Rough seas we faced and conquered ourselves
And thereby saved us,
What is left?
The lines of time,
Promises unfulfilled
And a secret we never told.
"Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened." Thomas Hardy
